OUR HISTORY 


Over the years, the iconic Pez Espada by MedPlaya Hotel has continued to grow and welcome visitors from all over the world, attracted by the quality that its location offers, as well as the history that surrounds it. After a very recent refurbishment and upgrading of facilities, always preserving the protected characteristic architectural aspects of the hotel, it has managed to surprise our visitors once again.

Our history

Over the years, the iconic Pez Espada by MedPlaya Hotel has continued to grow and welcome visitors from all over the world, attracted by the quality that its location offers, as well as the history that surrounds it.

1959

Opening its doors on May 31st 1959 as the only 5-star hotel in the area (currently, the Pez Espada hotel is a 4-star hotel), it immediately attracted cultural and political personalities as well as royalty and film stars. Anthony Quinn, Brigitte Bardot, Sean Connery, Charlton Heston or the great Frank Sinatra, among others, were all guests of this emblematic hotel.

1964

Frank Sinatra who was filming “Von Ryan’s Express” in El Chorro, Málaga, ended his stay at Pez Espada at the Málaga police station after an incident with a photographer and an aspiring actress at the hotel bar.

1960's & 70’s

1985

In September 1985 the MedPlaya Hotel Chain acquires the Hotel Pez Espada.

With the arrival of MedPlaya a comprehensive updating of facilities as well as ongoing improvements are carried out, once again positioning the hotel as a symbol and reference of the Costa del Sol and Torremolinos.

2009

2020's

Welcome to the new emblematic Hotel Pez Espada.
From 2020 Owned by Azora European Hotel & Lodging and managed by the MedPlaya Group,. The newly refurbished and decorated hotel, reflects the hotel´s heritage from the 1960´s, with its unbeatable se combines up to date facilities with the elegance and atmosphere of those days gone by when it was ‘The Place to be Seen’ for the rich and famous!
